“Are we crazy?”
The question remains, and the verdict is still out.

Plenty has transpired leading up to this launch and the writing of our first post. With 2020 surprising all of us, there were times we doubted the possibility of buying our fixer upper. COVID-19 surfaced just as our previous home went up for sale. Severe storms downed massive trees on site and cut power to record offices days before closing.
Questions outnumbered problems. How fast can a home sell in a pandemic? With banks in a frenzy over aid loans, would we secure financing? Would we even have jobs? On top of these concerns, was the house even able to be saved?
Obstacles aside, on a sunny afternoon we closed on our 1890’s Folk Victorian (The date the house was actually built is another question).

We couldn’t be more excited.
We couldn’t be more overwhelmed.
We couldn’t be more grateful.
When making the decision to sell a perfectly good home, and take on a home that needs so much TLC, our list of reasons made the decision for us. The main one that resurfaced time and time again in my own mind was about our future selves.
“What kind of people will my wife and I have to become to rebuild this house?”
Sure, we will have more acreage, a home with character and charm (and a balcony!), but I have a feeling that who we become at the end of this journey will mean more to me than what we have built, and isn’t that the point of adventures, memory-making, and stories?
And then there’s the sharing of this story with you: our friends, family, and followers. I have always loved a good story, and I am thrilled to bring you this one.
We will tell it with words, pictures, and videos.
We will tell it with tools and objects from the past.
We will tell it and enjoy it together.

Lindsey and I hope to inspire and empower you. In 2013 when we bought our previous home, I didn’t own a single tool, and I had zero desire to build or create anything. I no longer had an imagination. Luckily, a DIY project peaked my curiosity and reignited my creative side. That project sparked a joy toward learning and taking on new challenges. If you’re willing to view the world around you with curiosity, my experience can also be yours.
I hope you will check back for weekly updates and inspiration from our blog posts, videos, and general tom-foolery. And don’t forget to subscribe at the bottom of our page!
Thanks and God bless,
John Michael
